FAQs

  • For their first Jiu-Jitsu class at Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu, your child can wear comfortable, athletic clothing—something they can easily move in, like a t-shirt and athletic shorts or pants. Avoid any clothing with zippers or buttons, as these can cause discomfort during training.

Once your child decides to continue, they will need a Gi (the traditional Jiu-Jitsu uniform), which they'll wear during class. The Gi helps with learning proper grips and techniques, and it’s an important part of their training. We’ll guide you through the process of getting one when the time comes.

Most importantly, your child should come excited, ready to learn, and eager to have fun!

  • Jiu-Jitsu is a fantastic choice for children of all ages and abilities because it offers benefits that go beyond the physical. At Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu, our program is designed to help children develop self-confidence, discipline, and problem-solving skills in a fun, supportive environment. Whether your child is energetic and loves being active or is more reserved and could benefit from building social skills and self-esteem, Jiu-Jitsu provides a balanced approach to growth.

In our classes, kids learn at their own pace while gaining valuable self-defense techniques, improving coordination, and understanding what it means to be a good teammate. We offer a Free Trial Week so you can see firsthand how your child responds to the structured yet engaging nature of Jiu-Jitsu. Most importantly, Jiu-Jitsu is designed to meet your child where they are and help them flourish both on and off the mat.

  • At Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu, your child’s safety is our top priority. Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on technique, leverage, and control rather than striking or aggressive force. Our classes are designed with safety in mind, and our experienced instructors ensure that children learn the proper techniques in a safe, controlled environment.

We teach students to practice with care and respect for their training partners, and we always supervise live drills to prevent injuries. While, like any physical activity, there is a small risk of minor bumps and bruises, Jiu-Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts for children. In fact, many parents choose Jiu-Jitsu because it teaches kids self-defense without relying on dangerous strikes.

By emphasizing safety, discipline, and mutual respect, we ensure that your child can enjoy the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu while minimizing the risk of injury.

  • At Binding Arts Jiu Jitsu, children can begin training as early as 3 years old in our Little Vikings Program, which is designed for ages 3 to 7. In these classes, we focus on building coordination and mobility through fun, interactive games that also teach fundamental Jiu-Jitsu movements. Kids engage in live drills and practice techniques in a safe and supportive environment.

Beyond self-defense skills, your child will get a great workout and start to understand the importance of being a good teammate—lessons that go beyond the mat and into everyday life.
